BAETLI by BETHEA
In 2013 Bethea began doing freelance work under the name BAETLI (pronounced "bait-lee" - the Swiss-German nickname her college roommates had bestowed upon her the year before).
Prior to that she studied Music Leadership at Hillsong College in Sydney, Australia; Studio Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary; and earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History in Art (with focus areas in Archaeology and Film Studies) from the University of Victoria in BC. She then moved to Toronto, completing a Masters of Museum Studies at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Information.
This gave her the opportunity to academically nerd out over interests such as the emergence of new information pathways and online cultures via social media, leveraging cultural resources for sustainable city development, cultivating creative and alternative economies, and connecting audiences with cultural institutions through public programming.
ART + DESIGN
Trained at the Alberta College of Art and Design Bethea has won multiple awards for her visual work, including the Dogwood District Scholarship for Fine Arts in 2008 and Storyboard Winner at the Quality Forum 2014 in Vancouver.
At BΛETLI she specializes in digital illustration, print design, logo design, design for online media, photography, and web design through the WiX web platform.
CULTURE + EVENTS
Dedicated to the goal of connecting institutions with communities, Bethea has taken on a variety of roles within the cultural sector. Her roster of experience and skill includes social media, public programming, marketing, communications, event coordination, and exhibit development and interpretation.
Among others, she has worked with the Royal Ontario Museum, North by Northeast Music Festival, Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO.
